Hartwell is the fourth station on the Alamein line and is the only station with an Island Platform configuration. It was originally called 'Hartwell Hill' but was renamed to Hartwell in 1906. The station is surrounded nearly entirely by houses. With a park and cafe being the only other things in the area.
The station building was originally the Walhalla station building in Gippsland. It was moved to Hartwell in December 1938 before the line was shut in 1944.
