Ashburton is the second station on the Alamein line. It is the only staffed station on the branch line and was opened in May 1890 and became staffed in February 1996. The station became a terminal station following the closure of the Outer Circle line but in 1948 a 600 meter extension to Alamein was made. Ashburton is also unique for its stabling siding. It was used to stable trains between 1989 and 2015. The siding was booked out of use following the vandalism of trains in the siding.
